He’s one of the finest chefs in the world. You’re in his kitchen and he’s casting his expert eye over your culinary attempts. No pressure at all!

In fact it was very much a case of no pressure but a tremendous thrill for 40 guests who had the opportunity of spending time with Audi Ambassador Guillaume Brahimi in his Perth kitchen for an exclusive masterclass event.

As part of Audi’s ongoing lifestyle experiences program, exclusive events such as this are offered to further enhance the Audi ownership experience – as Audi Ambassadors offer a rare, ‘money can’t buy experience’ and share their expertise with Audi customers.

For food aficionados, spending time in the company of Guillaume Brahimi would be an experience in itself, but the masterclass gave the participants the opportunity of learning from the celebrated chef at Bistro Guillaume in Perth, with a masterclass followed by a luxurious lunch – cooked for the guests, not by them!
Armed with a glass of Perrier-Jouët ‘Grand Brut’ NV on arrival, the guests were captivated as they took in just some of what it takes for one of the best in the business to create the dishes that have made him famous. From the start it was a very relaxed affair, with Guillaume putting everyone at their ease as he made even the most difficult techniques and preparations look like child’s play. Seeing such expertise in practice is a humbling experience that was not lost on those present.

The proof of cooking though, is very much in the dishes themselves, and after the masterclass it was time to get down to the very serious business of enjoying lunch.

An entree of scampi with cucumber, peach and shiso was matched to a 2011 Domaine Bordenave-Coustaret ‘Renaissance’. This was followed by grilled sirloin with béarnaise and kipfler potatoes with a mixed leaf salad with shallot dressing. A 2005 Château Fourcas-Hosten ‘Cru Bourgeois Supérieur’ providing the perfect accompaniment.

Rounding out the afternoon, dessert of passion fruit soufflé with vanilla bean créme anglaise and a 2012 Clos ‘Bagatelle’ Muscat de St-Jean-de-Minervois.

A tremendous experience for all of the participants, it not only provided the chance to learn from such a talented chef, but offered an insight into what it takes to be the best, that many of the participants said would only serve to enhance their enjoyment and appreciation of fine food in the future.

A parting gift of a signed copy of Guillaume’s Food for Family cook book will no doubt serve as additional inspiration for the guests when they return to their own kitchens.
