For the second consecutive year, Audi has taken the Sepang 12 Hours in Malaysia, with Laurens Vanthoor, Christopher Haase and Robin Frijns from Audi Sport Team Phoenix driving away with the race.

Heavy rains fell throughout the race, often making conditions difficult around the Malaysian Grand Prix circuit outside Kuala Lumpur, but that did little to slow the Audi contingent. At the halfway mark, Audis took over positions one and two, the number 15 car, which had started the race from pit lane never bettered from that point on to go on and take top honours, with a clear lap before its nearest rival.

Pierre Kaffer, René Rast and Markus Winkelhock in the #16 sister car completed the podium in third place while Audi customer team B-Quik Racing took a class victory with drivers Daniel Bilski, Henk Kiks and Peter Kox behind the wheel.

The victory also gave Audi driver Laurens Vanthoor the drivers’ title in the inaugural Intercontinental GT Challenge after a stellar season, while Audi added the manufacturer’s title to an ever growing list of accomplishments attributed to the Audi R8 LMS race car.
