It would be impossible to script a better performance than that of Audi works driver, René Rast over the weekend.

Driving his Audi RS 5 DTM car he scored a massive 56 points over the course of the weekend, setting pole position on both Saturday and Sunday and winning both races.

This was the first time a driver had managed such a feat since the current race format was introduced, the result moving him up the overall standings into third outright on the championship ladder. This means, with a total of 112 points still up for grabs in the remaining four DTM races, Rast has put himself and his Audi team in the running to successfully defend the title he won last year.

“It’s absolutely incredible, I’m speechless as well,” said Head of Audi Motorsport Dieter Gass.

“Two wins and two pole positions for René (Rast) – I don’t know how he does it. Obviously it’s fantastic for René, but also fantastic for Audi. After the difficult start to the season we couldn’t really expect this. We never gave up and improved the car little by little within the confines of the limited possibilities that the regulations allow.”

“We took the maximum points haul and third place in the championship,” said an ecstatic Rast having clinched both races.

“It was an unbelievable weekend with two poles and two wins. I’m stuck for words!”

With two race weekends remaining on September 22 – 23 at the Red Bull Ring in Austria and October 13 – 14 at Hockenheim, Rast now finds himself just 57 points behind championship leader Gary Paffett, promising a thrilling final to the 2018 DTM season.

“Two wins and two pole positions for René (Rast) – I don’t know how he does it. Obviously it’s fantastic for René, but also fantastic for Audi."
