21 January, 2018

Audi Sport customer racing will launch a major offensive at this year’s Bathurst 12 hour race with eight GT3 race cars heading to Australia’s most famous and challenging race track.

Bathurst has proved a happy hunting ground for the brand with the four rings in the past, with outright victory in both 2011 and 2012, as well as class victories and numerous other podiums.

Both local and international teams will take on the famed 6.2 kilometre track that is regular street for the bulk of the year.

With significant elevation changes and weather that is notoriously fickle, Bathurst never fails to challenge all comers, even those who have driven at the Mountain many times in the past.

Team Valvoline Jamec Pem Racing will be on the grid with five Audi Sport drivers, Kelvin van der Linde, Frédéric Vervisch, Christopher Haase, Christopher Mies and Markus Winkelhock, plus local touring car ace Garth Tander.

"Bathurst never fails to challenge all comers, even those who have driven at the Mountain many times in the past."

"The competition will be fierce in 2018 and the final result will, as always, make for a tremendous motorsport spectacle."

Audi Sport Team WRT will make its Australian debut , with Audi Sport campaigners Robin Frijns and Dries Vanthoor with Blancpain GT Sprint Champion Stuart Leonard sharing the driving duties in one car. At the wheel of the second WRT Audi will be last year’s FIA WEC GT Am Trophy winners Mathias Lauda, Paul Dalla Lana and Pedro Lamy together with local hero Will Davison. Three privateer teams from Australia and one from New Zealand are completing the circle of Audi’s customer teams at Bathurst, including seasoned campaigners, James and Theo Koundouris in the Supabarn R8 LMS and Audi driving experience instructor, Daniel Gaunt sharing the ASR car with Ash Samadi.

Always an exciting race, the competition will be fierce in 2018 and the final result will, as always, make for a tremendous motorsport spectacle.

The Bathurst 12 Hour race will be held on February 4.
