There’s not a great deal of surf out in Sydney’s west. The suburb of Eastern Creek in particular, is not renowned for its surf breaks, and yet at a recent Audi driving experience at Sydney Motorsport Park (formally Eastern Creek Raceway), one of surfing’s shining lights was right at home.
There was some water involved at times as Hayden Cox, surf board designer, entrepreneur and innovator got behind the wheel of a range of high-performance Audi models and showed that he’s pretty comfortable this far from the sea. In fact, whether it was on the skip pan, or out on the race track, Hayden looked not only at home, but a bit like a kid in a lolly shop.
Hayden Cox is best known in world surfing circles as the mastermind behind Haydenshapes, an innovator in the world of surf board design who has built an extraordinary reputation for his work and work ethic in a short space of time.
If you’re a surfer, you will know the Haydenshapes, Hayden Cox name. If you don’t surf, then it’s only a matter of time before the name becomes very familiar.
Today, Hayden Cox, a long time friend and collaborator with the Audi brand in Australia, added Audi Ambassador to a growing list of roles, and he couldn’t be happier with the association.
“I’m stoked to personally join the line-up of Audi ambassadors on my home soil,” Hayden said of the official announcement.
“We first started working with the Audi team around three years ago when we sent a rogue email [to Audi] about a team surf trip with our athletes that we were organising for the South Coast in NSW,” Hayden remembers.
“At that point the Haydenshapes brand was quite small and relatively unknown to anyone outside of the Australian surf industry. We’d only just launched internationally and were armed with a whole lot of passion, ideas and goals for the great things to come. Audi came on board and supported by offering us some wheels to borrow for the trip.”
That association has blossomed into a strong partnership, the shared values of excellence and design innovation creating a perfect match between the two brands.
From here there are a number of very exciting collaborations planned between Audi and its newest brand ambassador, although exact plans are very much under wraps at this stage. For the man and the brand that produced the signature ‘marble effect’ surfboard and the chrome boards exclusively premiered at last year’s Audi Hamilton Island Race Week, expect something special.
