It’s no coincidence that the San José Chiapa plant was built to produce the very important and successful Audi Q5 and its derivatives

Since the laying of the foundation stone 10 years ago right up until to today, Audi’s state-of-the-art facility in San Jose Chiapa, Mexico has proved to be a resounding success on every level. It has created more than 5,000 jobs at the facility and contributed to the generation of a further 20,000 indirect jobs in the region with the likes of new suppliers and those who expanded their own operations due to the production of the Audi Q5.

Audi Mexico has also cemented its place in the local community as a valued participant and contributor and its environmental credentials have been leading edge since its construction, with the plant now considered 80 percent complete in terms of the brand’s Mission:Zero, environmental program which aims at worldwide carbon-neutral production for all Audi production sites by 2025.

It’s no coincidence that the San José Chiapa plant was built to produce the very important and successful Audi Q5 and its derivatives for the whole world (except China) and as of this month, it has built a total of 1,000,000 vehicles that today circulate on streets, avenues, and highways worldwide.

“Congratulations to the entire Audi Mexico team for this impressive milestone. The plant in San José Chiapa is an important part of our global production network. It sets the standards for our 360factory strategy, especially in sustainability. Wastewater-free production, in particular, makes the site a role model within the Group”, says Gerd Walker, Member of the Board of AUDI AG for Production and Logistics.

Along the way Audi Mexico has been recognised as a Socially Responsible Company for six consecutive years, thanks to its actions on environmental protection and promoting the development of young people living in San José Chiapa – helping build sporting facilities in the region to help promote sports and health among the locals.

In the area of environmental considerations, Audi Mexico has been a leader since day one. Its work conserving and recycling water for example and its Reverse Osmosis plant process which process some 50 million litres a year, one of many ways Audi Mexico has distinguished itself in its first 10 years and demonstrated the brand’s commitment to conserving resources and reducing environmental impacts in production.

Tarek Mashhour, Executive President of Audi Mexico sums it up best:

"We are excited and proud to celebrate 10 years in San Jose Chiapa. We thank all our employees who have allowed us to write a history of success in Mexico. I congratulate all of them because their work is of world-class quality. We will continue our success story with the same passion and perfection that characterises us, taking firm steps towards our company’s future of sustainability and electromobility".

Next month, Audi Australia will launch the eagerly-awaited Audi Q5 plug-in hybrid variant to the Australian market, bringing the combination of all-electric drive of up to 50 kilometre range with the versatility of the powerful, efficient TFSI engine.
