Both rear-wheel drive and quattro models will be available within the Q4 e-tron range
Expected to arrive in Australia in the first half of the new year, the Audi Q4 e-tron models represent a completely new addition to the brand’s all-electric offering in Australia. Four model variants will be available Down Under with a rear-wheel drive model designated Q4 45 e-tron available in both SUV and Sportback configurations (both priced from $88,300*), and a Q4 55 e-tron model feature electric quattro all-wheel drive also available in both SUV ($108,500*) and Sportback ($109,500*) body styles.
Although occupying the ‘compact’ segment, the Q4 e-tron models measure in at 4.6 metres in length with a healthy 2.76 metre wheelbase that provides plenty of interior accommodation for passengers and luggage alike. Think of a vehicle that slots in between the current Audi Q3 and Q5 models to give you an idea in terms of size. For the more literal, think 520 litres of storage in the SUV which expands to 1490 litres with the rear seats folded flat, or 535 litres and 1460 litres respectively father the Sportback.
But despite the size comparisons, the Q4 e-tron models sport their own very distinctive styling and character as well as new technology and features that will endear these new models to existing and new Audi customers alike.
Both variants use an 82 kWh battery (77 kWh net) to power their respective electric motors – one in the case of the Q4 45 e-tron and. Two for its quattro, Q4 55 e-tron siblings. Power for the 45 model is 210kW and 545Nm, which delivers a 0 to 100km/h time of 6.7 seconds, while DC charging capacity is 135kW.
The Q4 55 e-tron quattro outputs 250kW and 679Nm of torque and hits 100km/h from stop in just 5.4 seconds as well as offering a charging capacity of 175kW.
In addition to their fast charging, both models offer three-stage coasting recuperation which is controlled by the driver using the wheel-mounted panels, as well as braking regeneration of up to 0.3 g.
Both models will be offered in Australia with significant equipment as standard as well as additional options including all-new technology. Highlights in the standard equipment offering include LED headlights, metallic paint and electric tailgate operation for the Q4 45 e-tron models. Leather appointed upholstery is likewise standard equipment with the front seats also heated, as well as three-zone climate control and Audi virtual cockpit with two display options.
The Q4 55 e-tron models will also come with an S line exterior styling package as well as Matrix LED headlights that include digital light signatures that can be changed to give the vehicle its own distinctive light signature.
Matrix LED lights with configurable light signatures are amongst the offerings on some models
The Q4 e-tron will also debut the brand's all-new augmented reality head-up display
Sport front seats will also carry the S embossing while lighting inside the vehicle too can be tailored with colour ambient lighting, as well as the Audi virtual cockpit with three different display options.
The 55 models will also come with progressive steering as standard equipment.
In addition, the Q4 e-tron models will also see the introduction of the brand’s all-new augmented reality head-up display which provides even more information to the driver at a glance without them having to divert their eyes from the road ahead.
The unique system displays relevant information on two separate levels, with status section and the augmented reality (AR) section. In addition to the more familiar head-up display, some of the information is essentially superimposed on the corresponding place on the real world outside and appear to be floating at differing distances from the driver to best illustrate the situation ahead. They are designed in such a way as to be understood very quickly without causing distraction and they are extremely helpful in poor visibility conditions.
Final Australian specification for the Q4 e-tron models will be confirmed closer to launch in the new year, or register your interest here to be informed of all new updates on these exciting new models.
