The new RS 3 LMS prepares for its first full race season.

Although the road going version isn’t due in Australia until later in the year, the race version of the RS 3 Sedan, the RS 3 LMS is about to embark on its first full race season, and expectations are high.

This Saturday marks the opening of the TCR International Series at Rustavi in Georgia, with reigning champion, Stefano Comini, competing with an Audi RS 3 LMS car. Likewise in the ADAC TCR series in Germany, the reigning champion team, Target Competition, has ordered four of the new Audi race cars, sending a strong message that the newest Audi RS model has already earned great favour within the international racing community – even without a full season under it belt.

Revealed late last year at the Paris International Motor Show along with its road going equivalent, the RS 3 LMS has generated tremendous international interest, given its eligibility in 14 series worldwide.

“In Germany and around the world, we have sold a total of 90 Audi RS 3 LMS cars to our customers,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing.

Although relatively new to the world’s race tracks, the Audi RS 3 LMS has already proven its mettle, in January, winning the TCR class of the Dubai 24 Hours, and in March, winning the TCR class of the Mugello 12 Hours on its first attempt. The Audi RS 3 LMS will also take part in Germany’s toughest endurance race from May 25 to 28, the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
