Few cars have had such and impact on automotive design as the Audi TT.

From the first design concept unveiled at Frankfurt International motor show in 1995, to the first series production model 20 years ago and each successive incarnation since, the Audi TT has continued to capture the imagination.

A seamless marriage of form and function, the new incarnation of this automotive icon has received Audi’s renowned ’S’ treatment, with the new TTS models proudly taking the TT legacy into a new generation.

Available as a Coupé and Roadster, and with a special TTS competition model also offered, the TTS offers the styling, performance and painstaking attention to detail that have been hallmarks of the model since its earliest days.

There is no doubting the TT heritage, yet the TTS models bring their own sharper interpretation of the shape, giving it a harder edge than before. Elements in a matt aluminium silver look stand out in the distinctive Singleframe grille with a TTS badge and the matt titanium black insert. A new horizontal blade in the bumper is a new design feature, turning up at the ends, to form narrow, upright funnels at the same height as the side air inlets.

Powerfully contoured sills underscore the sporty character viewed from the sides. while the  vertical air outlets below the rear lights and the broadened diffuser along with the four exhausts are clear indicators of the car’s performance potential.

Clean, purposeful and beautifully proportioned, the TTS is at once familiar, yet with an unmistakable contemporary air. A modern sportscar that pays homage to its own past in its overall design and in beautiful details like the distinctive racing fuel cap.

"Few cars have had such and impact on automotive design as the Audi TT."

"Certainly, the TTS in each of its guises is a true performance special."

Certainly, the TTS in each of its guises is a true performance special. With its 2.9 TFSI powerplant, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and quattro all-wheel drive, it delivers an immersive driving experience. With 225kW of power (20kW more than its predecessor) and 400Nm of torque available between 2000 and 5300rpm, the Coupé dismantles the run from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds, while the Roadster is just 0.3 seconds behind.

Of course quattro permanent all-wheel drive is standard on TTS, as is the Audi magnetic ride controlled shock absorber system first introduced on the second generation of TT. Progressive steering, four-link rear suspension and Electronic Stabilisation Control (ESC) are all part of the TTS driving package, as are 18-inch wheels – although 19 and 20-inch wheels are available as options.

Just as driver focused is the superb interior, which retains touches adapted from the original model – the round, jet-inspired air vents for example – and the overall feel inspired by a fighter cockpit. Although infinitely more comfortable.

The Audi virtual cockpit is right at home in the TTS, complete with the additional sport screen, while Audi S sport seats with colour contrasting stitching are yet another detail that add to the overall feeling of absolute quality.

Another highlight of the TTS range is a special TTS competition model. With its fixed wing on the rear, brake calipers painted red, 20-inch wheels in high-gloss black and other exterior details in gloss black, it has a commanding presence. LED headlights, Audi rings laminated on the side sills, privacy glazing (Coupé only), it is available in glacier white, tango red and mythos black to set it apart as an exclusive model.

The two options for leather upholstery and trim likewise add to the exclusiveness. Express red with contrasting stitching in granite grey or ebony with contrasting stitching in express red. To go with this, the elements of the seat trims and centre console come in slate grey chrome paint finish or tango red gloss paint finish (Coupé only). The inside rings of the air vents are painted red, the gear lever knob and the steering wheel rim carries a red 12-o’clock marking from Audi exclusive come in Alcantara. In addition, inlays in carbon come as a standard feature.

Impressive in all its guises, the TTS is set to make its Australian debut in the second quarter of this year along with the other new TT models, with final Australian specification and pricing announced closer to launch.
