This year, Santa will be swapping his reindeer and sleigh for the new Audi e-tron GT prototype – for what will definitely be a silent night.

If you hear the pitter patter of little feet on your roof this Christmas Eve, don’t mistake them for Santa’s reindeer, as the big guy has got a new ride in 2020. Although production of Audi’s all-electric supercar – the Audi  e-tron GT – has only just got underway at the Böllinger Höfe site in Neckarsulm, Santa will get the chance to take the prototype out for his Christmas delivery run this year.

Us mere mortals will have to wait a little longer to get behind the wheel fo the electric grand tourer, with Audi expecting to begin European deliveries early in the new year. The Audi e-tron GT will also be joined by the very first all-electric RS model – the RS e-tron GT, which produces 440kW and 830Nm of torque on overboots. That’s enough for a 0 to 200km/h time of less than 3.5 seconds and of course the electric quattro system ensures every last bit of that power is utilised and put down to the road.

Being completely electric also means that it is whisper quiet – although production models will have their own unique sound, developed especially in the Audi sound laboratory to meet legal requirements in Europe and the US.

Santa’s prototype though will have no such soundtrack, making for the perfect ‘silent night’. So if you do hear scurrying feet on the roof come Christmas Eve, chances are you have a possum problem.
