Team ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport has produced a strong in Buenos Aires, Argentina, over the weekend, starting the Buenos Aires ePRix on pole position and recording another podium result with Luca di Grassi at the wheel.

Teammate Daniel Abt also made his mark on the ePrix, producing an inspired drive to come from 16th position to finish in seventh.

Held in scorching conditions, the race saw di Grassi secure his first pole prison in the fully electric formula, only to struggle with handling issues early in the race and find himself in fifth position at the car swap point, halfway through the race. But again, the Brazilian showed his talent, fighting his way back though the field to ultimately claim third.

“We always try to extract the maximum. The track had little grip and I managed a good lap. That it turned out to be pole position was a nice surprise. It was great putting the car on pole,” Lucas di Grassi said after the race.

More work needs to be done though to improve on that result in future races he says. “A podium was the maximum we were able to achieve. With third place in the race and pole position we scored 18 points in total. It was no doubt a good weekend for us even though we still have a lot of homework to do.”

The result cements di Grassi’s position as second in the series behind Sébastien Buemi, with the next round to be held in Mexico on 1 April, where di Grassi and Team ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport will again be in the hunt for maximum points.

“In season three, we can only try to score as many points as possible. I’ve managed to do that pretty well so far by taking second place in Hong Kong, fifth in Marrakesh, plus the 18 points in in Buenos Aires. We have to be ready to act when the others make mistakes. In that case, we can win races as well.”
