Men of the Year
Audi Ambassadors honoured at the GQ Men of the Year awards.
17 November, 2016
Local and international stars and celebrities were out in force in Sydney last night for the 10th annual GQ Men of the Year awards. A night of glamour and plenty of good humour at Sydney’s Ivy Ballroom, Audi ambassadors were among the winners on the night, while others were amongst those gathered to honour and celebrate the outstanding achievements of men in their respective fields, from sport to acting, style to journalism and entertainment.
Audi ambassador Richard Roxburgh was a winner on the night, taking out the Acting Legend award, while fellow Audi ambassador, actor and God of Thunder, Chris Hemsworth, took the top award when he was named GQ’s Men of the Year for 2016.
With the irrepressible Hamish Blake as emcee, it was always going to be a riotous night. International stars Jon Hamm (named International Man of the Decade) was on hand, as were Chris Evans (Captain America) and actor Scott Eastwood – son of the legendary Clint Eastwood – who is currently in Australia shooting the Pacific Rim sequel.
Other guests at the awards included Audi ambassador Lisa Wilkinson, soon to be featured in the coming Audi Magazine print edition, as well as actor Joel Edgerton, Rose Byrne (currently appearing in STC’s Speed the Plough), Ian Thorpe, Jai Courtney and and Iggy Azalea who won GQ’s Woman of the Year and floored even host Hamish MacDonald with her acceptance speech.
Chris Hemsworth got the opportunity to salute so many of the winners he said weren’t always recognised in the mainstream for their outstanding contributions, while Richard Roxburgh, demonstrating exactly why he such a popular and critical success said of his Acting Legend award:
"I had to look up the word legend to see what that really means. And a definition I saw, maybe I wasn't looking in the right places, but it said a legend is an old tale that is sort of half true passed on between generations. That makes me sound a bit like some kind of ancient STD.”
