Q2 Cutting Edge Design
Audi Q2 receives critical acclaim for design with prestigious award win.
14 July, 2016
Unmistakably Audi even at a glance, the new Audi Q2 is an obvious progression in terms of design for the brand. The styling is familiar and yet takes the Audi design language in a new direction – the established Audi design elements joined by many new elements to the brand’s form language.
These new elements and the arresting exterior design of the new Q2 have struck a chord with judges of the Automotive Brand Contest, with the Audi Q2 being named ‘Best of the Best’ in the Exterior Premium Brand category.
Presented by the German Design Council, the Automotive Brand Contest is one of the most prestigious design competitions in the automotive industry, which looks at a range of categories across the automotive industry.
“In the Audi Q2 we have developed a distinctively geometric formal language with special design characteristics specific to this model,” said Audi Head of Design Marc Lichte. “As a result the car exhibits an independent character within the Q family.”
The distinctive octagonal Singleframe grille on the Q2 is a variation on the polygon theme, so important in the Q2’s overall design. The two large air inlets at the front also mirror the polygon theme, while the play of polygonal shapes also creates attractive effects on the vehicle’s flanks. The concave shape of the flanks emphasises the wheels and with them the quattro character of the compact SUV, while the rear end terminates dynamically with a long roof edge spoiler and a diffuser that again reflects the quattro nature of the Q2.
All of these elements in concert create a dynamic exterior that is both mindful of the established Audi design and yet presents a fresh new face for this completely new model.
In addition to the award for the the Q2’s styling, Audi also triumphed in a fourth nine categories, including the ground-breaking OLED rear lights on the new Audi TT RS in the Parts & Accessories category.
The award ceremony to present the winners on the Automotive Brand Contest will be held in Paris in September.
