Rast was electric, notching up his eighth win in 10 races
Audi DTM driver, René Rast has notched up his 12th DTM (German Touring Car Masters) victory in Zolder, Belgium, claiming victory in his Audi RS5 DTM.
The win was the second for Rast in 2019, making him the only driver to win twice in the new turbo era of what is widely considered the most exciting touring car formula in the world. His teammate, Jamie Green, finished in third position, putting Audi Sport Team Rosberg in equal first in the team championship.
Rast’s performance puts him in second position in the drivers’ standings after four rounds of this year’s DTM and incredibly marks his eighth win in 10 races.
His performance in Belgium was impressive from start to finish, missing out on pole position by the narrowest of margins – just six thousandths of a second – but ultimately wining the race by near 10 seconds from his nearest rival, Philipp Eng in the BMW.
“This was an incredible victory again,” said Rast. “The new Audi RS 5 DTM is an outstanding race car.”
Behind Rast, other Audi competitors also produced strong performances, with his teammate Jamie Green battling to the end to secure his first podium in over a year, while Mike Rockenfeller from Audi Sport Team Phoenix finished just off the podium in fourth.
“Yesterday overtaking at Zolder seemed impossible and today we saw plenty of overtaking manoeuvres and fantastic racing,” said Head of Audi Motorsport Dieter Gass.
“It was an incredible race with an extremely good result for Audi. My thanks go to the entire squad that untiringly worked again this weekend. Without them, this success would not have been possible.”
Audi sure up equal first in the team standings, while Rast moves into second on the driver rankings
