Audi and Garth Tander record historic first TCR Australia victory

Garth Tander has delivered the goods in Round Three of the TCR Australia Championship to record Audi’s first win in the new series at The Bend in south Australia.

In just his second drive in the Audi RS 3 LMS after competing in round Two at Phillip Island, Tander showed his class to come from behind and record a decisive victory to give the brand its second podium (Hamish Ribarits scored a third place in Victoria) and first outright victory.

Ahead of the race, Tander predicted that The Bend layout would suit the Audi and has gone on to demonstrate that point.

“It’s fantastic to win for Audi in TCR Australia, they support the series globally in a big way,” an ecstatic Tander said after the race.

"For Melbourne Performance Centre, Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia and Audi Australia, to get their first win in the category today is great, so hopefully we can repeat that.”

"It was one of those races where everyone made a few mistakes because of the changing conditions. No one had done a dry lap around The Bend until the race and even then it was still raining at the start so it threw everything at us.”

Despite a spin mid-way through the race, Tander charged back through the filed to take the top spot, so hopes are high for more success with two races remaining today to close out the round.
