"Audi created the RSQ for the 2004 film, I Robot, which also starred Will Smith."
Audi has had many starring roles on the silver screen, but with its newest big screen creation, the RSQ e-tron, Audi makes its first foray into the world of animation.
Although a purely fictional vehicle, the futuristic Audi RSQ e-tron nevertheless exhibits technology that is already available in Audi models as well as future tech currently in development.
Created specifically for Twentieth Century Fox’s animated film Spies in Disguise, the full-battery electric model, created by Audi Design in co-operation with Blue Sky Studios, may be a wild look into an animated future, but is unmistakably an Audi. Elements of the R8 supercar and the Audi PB18 e-tron concept are apparent as are various aspects of Audi’s current design language – albeit in exaggerated form.
Featuring autonomous driving with artificial intelligence and transformational technology, the RSQ e-tron will be driven by super-spy Lance Sterling, voiced by Will Smith. And for those of you who get the feeling that the RSQ designation rings a bell, you’re quite right. Audi created the RSQ (pictured below) for the 2004 film, I Robot, which also starred Will Smith.
In Spies in Disguise, Super-spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) is the quintessential, super-cool international spy, forced to work with scientist Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) who makes up for his own lack of cool, with an extraordinary intellect. Working together in unusual circumstances, the two must thwart an unimaginable threat and save the world.
“An international espionage story with future technologies that can save the world is the perfect match for the Audi brand” says Giovanni Perosino, Vice President of Marketing Communication at AUDI AG. “Similar to our cars, fun, innovation and performance are key elements of the storyline.”
“Audi and Fox have been great collaborators over the years and we're thrilled to evolve our relationship, bringing Audi into the world of animation for the first time. This project was the perfect opportunity to highlight Audi’s e-tron technology and give our intrepid spy, Lance Sterling, his own signature spy mobile”, said Erin Williams, Vice President, Marketing Partnerships for Twentieth Century Fox Film.
Spies in Disguise will be released internationally in September 2019.
