With ever changing tastes and trends it’s always difficult to predict which vehicles will strike a chord with customers over the long term. The Audi Q3 SUV is one which gelled from the very first and has only become more popular globally since the second generation arrived, bringing with it a host of improvements and the option of a Sportback body style.

No surprise then that Audi’s Győr production facility in Hungary has recently celebrated yet another production milestone with the 1,000,000th Q3 rolling off the line. In fact, since the start of series production of the Audi Q3 in 2011, more than two million of the compact SUV models have been sold worldwide, but one million of those were manufactured at Audi Hungary.

Since starting operations way back in 1993, Audi’s Hungarian operation has produced more than 45 million engines and two million vehicles, including manufacturing the mighty Audi TT, producing more than 650,000 of the celebrated sports car between 1998 and 2023.

Production of the second generation Audi Q3 began at the Győr  facility in 2018 with major work carried out to the facility in preparation for building the popular SUV and its Sportback variant.

At the time, a new body shop of 80,000 square metres was built and 700 new robots were installed. The new production hall was constructed in a record year and a half and more than 1000 employees were trained for production of the then new Audi Q3, with new, innovative robot cells installed at Győr’s training centre especially for the purpose.

Production of the second generation Q3 started at Győr in 2018.
The Győr facility has stood for consistent production quality for more than 25 years.

On the 28th of August, 2018, a turbo blue Q3 was the first Q3 to roll off the production line and now a little more than seven years later, that number has reached an impressive 1,000,000 Q3s.

“One million vehicles produced in Győr impressively demonstrates how popular the Audi Q3 is with our customers worldwide,” says Gerd Walker, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Audi Hungary and Member of the Board of Management for Production and Logistics at AUDI AG. “The Győr plant has played a significant part in the success of the model and has stood for consistent production quality for more than 25 years. Audi Hungary also has a unique portfolio of products and services that play an important role not only for the Hungarian industry, but also for the Audi brand.”

It’s an impressive achievement by any standard, with the popularity of the Q3 continuing unabated. Last year alone, some 99,288 Q3 SUVs and 63,759 Q3 Sportbacks rolled off the production line in Hungary.

“We are thrilled to have now reached the magic number of one million Audi Q3s produced in Győr,” says Michael Breme, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungary.

“Our thanks go to AUDI AG and to our customers for their trust, but above all to our outstanding employees who produce our cars in premium quality day after day.”
