Audi Brussels was the world's first certified CO2-neutral high-volume production plant in the premium segment

From humble beginnings in 1949 through to becoming one of the shining lights in the Audi production line-up, Audi Brussels shows the brand’s drive for progress in action. Responsible for producing the Audi e-tron, Audi e-tron Sportback, Audi e-tron S, and Audi e-tron S Sportback, since 2018, Audi Brussels has produced more than 8,000,000 vehicles since it was first founded back in 1949 and along the way, became the world's first certified CO2-neutral high-volume production plant in the premium segment.

From its massive solar power system, which covers more than 107,000 square metres to its use of only renewable resources and chemical and biological process-water treatment system, Audi Brussels has received numerous awards for its approach to manufacturing which results in a CO2-neutral impact on the environment.

Since 2011, visitors curious to see how the facility operates and watch the Audi e-tron models being produced have been welcomed at the site, but these on-site tours have become another casualty of the pandemic. But, through the use of AudiStream technology, interested parties are still able to enjoy a guided tour the award-winning facilities from the comfort and convenience of their own personal computer or device.

The multi-language, interactive tour takes visitors across the Belgian factory grounds using video recordings, covering the factory’s transformation from producing combustion engines in its early days to its dazzling transformation to specialising in electric drive systems. In addition to completely rebuilding and retooling every aspect of the plant, Audi also prepared its employees with hundreds of thousands of hours of advanced training on production of the new kind of drive system, and viewers can now watch the location’s modernisation in fast forward.

The tour then takes viewers into the world of e-tron production – from the body to the paint shop to final assembly. Watching people and robots working harmoniously together to produce perfect welding, soldering, and bonding. In final assembly, streaming guests can see how over 1000 parts are assembled on a belt that is more than a kilometre long and seeing the powertrain and the battery come together.

As a fitting finale, visitors can see the high-voltage battery manufacturing facility – the location’s showpiece – where each battery’s seals, electric functions, and, of course, power are checked.

For anyone interested in the mechanics of vehicle production, the tour is fascinating, while for Audi e-tron customers, it is an insight into how your vehicle ‘come to life’. Visit AudiStream to learn more or to book your virtual tour.
