Driving the WEF Summit

Davos in Switzerland is once again the focus of world attention as international power brokers, visionaries and industry leaders gather to discuss the future and how best to move forward for a better world. No small task by any standards, and one that sees many differing positions and opinions presented as well as many different approaches, from which hopefully some solutions to the world’s problems will flow.

Amongst the many topics up for discussion and debate, several global issues will feature prominently this year, including addressing climate change and environmental challenges, transforming industries to achieve more sustainable and inclusive business models to suit changing attitudes and times and how to adapt to the demographic, social and technological trends reshaping education, employment and entrepreneurship.

For the past 33 years of the World Economic Summit, Audi has played a key role as the official mobility partner. Last year, the Audi fleet at Davos was made up of Audi e-tron vehicles, and again in 2020, Audi is putting its practical approach to sustainable mobility on show with a fleet that is 90 percent electrified.

The Audi models are charged with green electricity exclusively, using mobile charging containers made with used Audi e-tron batteries that were developed specially for this purpose. 

The Audi fleet has doubled this year in Davos, with 100 electrified Audi models on hand, made up of Audi e-trons and the Audi A8 plug-in hybrid.

The specially developed charging containers are each equipped with four used Audi e-tron battery systems that deliver their overall charging capacity of roughly 700kW at three charging terminals, each with an output of 150kW, and have a storage capacity of around 1.0 MWh. To this end, Audi is cooperating with Swiss energy company ABB. This solution reduces the strain on the local grid to a minimum during peak times of demand in particular. The power for the three mobile containers in Davos, in turn, is generated from 100 percent local hydroelectric power.
