Ken Block teams up with Mattias Ekström in Austria for a first-hand taste of the brand’s cutting-edge RS Q e-tron Dakar monster.
8 July, 2022
Since kicking off his collaboration with Audi late last year, rally driver and master of drift, Ken Block, has been steadily working his way through a collection of Audi models both from the brand’s racing past as well as the very latest to emerge from Ingolstadt.
His trip with Audi to Austria for the GP Ice Race this year gave Block an accelerated chance to get behind the wheel of rally classics on the ice and now the ground-breaking Audi RS Q e-tron rally raid machine, in this case fresh from its debut in the Dakar Rally.
For this particular test drive, Block teamed up with Audi works driver Mattias Ekström, one of the three drivers who both worked on the development of the vehicle and took it to Saudi Arabia this year for its Dakar debut. No stranger to racing at the very highest levels of motorsport, Ekström is an FIA World Rallycross Champion and two-time DTM Champion, who finished ninth outright at Dakar in the RS Q e-tron this year and won a stage into the bargain.
With one of the best qualified people on the planet to show him the finer points of driving an RS Q e-tron, Block was a very quick study behind the wheel.
For fans of Audi and Ken Block, this is just a taste of what is to come in the collaboration between the two. Driving the all-electric Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron – developed by Audi as a one-off exclusively for Ken Block – the Hoonigan team is producing a video entitled Electrikhana that will be released in the next few months and will be the latest chapter of their ‘Gymkhana’ series.
